maudslay state park photoThe former Moseley family estate on the Merrimack River, this park features 19th century gardens and plantings, rolling meadows, towering pines, and one of the largest naturally-occurring stands of mountain laurel in Massachusetts.

Most breathtaking are the ornamental trees and masses of azaleas and rhododendrons that bloom in May and June. An exquisite place for walking, biking, horseback riding and informal picnics.

Walk through fragrant evergreens and keep your eyes peeled for the wishing well and the pet cemetery, hidden in the magnificent rhododendron forest.

The hiking is very moderate. At times you walk by big fields so if you have a ball or frisbee you can take a break and play with the kids. We also love how scenic the hike is. At one point you get a beautiful view of the Merrimack River.

Permitted activities include fishing, bird watching, cycling, picnicking, horseback riding, hiking, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. Maudslay is also host to many outdoor concerts and performances during the summer season.

During the winter a portion of the park is off limits due to roosting bald eagles, but the remainder provides excellent cross country skiing and winter walks.

5-starA Perfect Place To Relax
You can come here to just relax and read a book to look at wildlife. Or bring the kids and let them explore the wonderful park. There is so many mysteries in this park. The buring and death of the owners and the old buildings and Some seem to think underground tunnels. Let your mind run free as you wander through the park. Remember respect our park and obey the rules of the park. This was where I sent my childhood exploring. I love it and so will you
