Learn About the Watertown Library

Children's Department
The East Branch, North Branch and Main libraries offer free programs for children of all ages. Programs include storytimes, 'Kids’ Flicks Movies', craft programs and special events for infants, toddlers and preschoolers as well as school-aged children. Our annual Summer Reading Program for all children includes special concerts and programs to celebrate reading. Please check our monthly calendar for a current schedule.

Our collection includes fiction and non-fiction books, board books, picture books, beginning readers, folk and fairy tales, parent/teacher resources, circulating toys and puppets, DVDs, videos, CDs, CD-ROMS, audiocassettes, Talking Books, and book/cassette packages. Patrons can access the internet, library catalog and online encyclopedias in the Children’s Room. A CD-ROM game station and word processing program are also available. Games, puzzles and other toys are available for use in the library.

Our outreach support services include visits to preschools and school visits to the library. Please contact the Main Library (617) 972-6435 for additional information.

To get a library card, a child must be 5 years old or able to write his/her name. Museum Passes for Watertown residents are available at the Adult Circulation Desk.

From the West: Take Rt. 20 east. Pass Rt. 128. The library is about 5 miles from Rt. 128 on the left. Or, take Mass Pike east to Newton Corner. Exit onto Galen St. to Watertown Sq. Take left onto Rt. 20. Library on right.
From East: Take Rt. 16 west to Watertown Sq. Take right onto Rt. 20. Or, take Rt. 60 west, left onto Rt. 20. Follow Rt. 20 for about 5 miles. Library will be on left.
