The Center for Families is a neighborhood-based, school-linked family support program housed in the Peabody School Community Wing. Center for Families serves families of children ages 0 to 6 in Cambridge. They have a partnership with both the Margaret Fuller House and the East End House to offer drop in times in different parts of the city.

The program receives support and oversight from two councils: the citywide Cambridge 0-8 Council and a local Community Advisory Council composed of parents, caregivers and service providers.

Center History
The Center for Families, begun in 1994 as an initiative of the Kids' Council, is a part of the Department of Human Services Childcare and Family Support Services Division. In FY03 the Childcare and Family Support Division received new funds from state and federal sources for the extension of family support activities through the Center for Families initiative to other parts of the city. These additional programs are open to families of children ages 0 to 6 throughout Cambridge.

The Center for Families offers a number of playgroups and specific drop in times at our infant-toddler room at the Peabody School and they offer several playgroups in affordable housing projects.

Community PlayGroups
Center for Families serves all of Cambridge with play groups through a collaboration called Community PlayGroups. The Child Care Resource Center will do registration for Community PlayGroups from Fall to Spring. Their number is (617) 547-1063.

Additional Parent Groups
The Center for Families also offers separate groups for Dads and Moms on Saturdays as well as periodic parenting education groups and workshops in the evenings.

Our business hours are 9:00pm - 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Please check the website for a calendar which tells the time and place of specific activities.
