mystic seaport photoA stroll through Mystic Seaport provides a glimpse of life, from blacksmithing to whaling, in an authentic 19th century seafaring village. Along the way, you'll spy any number of the living museum's fleet of more than 500 different vessels. Including 'The Brilliant' which is a vessel not to miss.

Mystic Seaport is the largest and most comprehensive maritime museum in North America. Here you can sail or row exact replicas of our traditional wooden boats, cruise in our antique steamboat, participate in formal classes, ride a horse-drawn carriage, star gaze in our planetarium, or spend the day climbing aboard ships or just meandering along beautiful riverfront gardens.

The range of activities takes place within a 40-acre property that houses the Collections Research Center, graduate and undergraduate campuses and more than one million artifacts, many of them the only surviving examples of their kind.

Together, all of these experiences make Mystic Seaport a very special place to spend time with friends and family.

About the Vessel Brilliant:
Docked by itself at LIghthouse Point, this 62-foot wooden, two-masted schooner, built in 1932, is far more than beautiful classic boat to see. It's also a renowned sailing school offering groups of adults and teenagers a unique, firsthand opportunity to learn about the sea by going there.

Throughout the day, you might learn things like how to tie a slipknot, help out in the galley or polish brass, and glean lots of other nautical knowledge from Captain Moffett, skipper of the ship since 1983.

The Brilliant takes teens on five-day cruises to Newport, Sag Harbor, and other stops along the southern coast of New England in July and August; four day adult sojourns run from May to June and September to October. Family, individual and private group bookings are also available.
