  • Prepare your children ahead of time by asking them to not put their fingers in the turtle pond water. Some turtles are very curious and may think fingers are worms.

Great Fun, Fri 4 May 2007

I took my 4 yr old daughter to this the other week and she had a wonderful time. A big animal lover, she was thrilled to see and touch many animals and learn a lot, as well. There was a fox, owl, hawk, blue tongued skink, snakes, doves, turtles, baby bunny, baby squirrels (being fed--very cute.) The guide was excited to share his knowledge. This was definitely a tour made for pre-schoolers, complet with coloring and bubble blowing at the end. We both had a great time and, as it changes every week, we're sure to go back often.

New England Wildlife Center, Thu 3 May 2007

This playgroup takes place at the N.E. Wildlife Center which can also be visited Friday - Tuesday, 10AM - 2PM. I have not attended the playgroup, but I did visit the center on a cloudy Sunday. There is a $20 limit / family, so if you are paying $15 for 3 to enter, you may want to spring for the extra $5 to receive a guided tour from a young volunteer. This way you may pet a snake or tarantulla. It was a pleasant 1.5 hours of activity for my 3 and 6 year old. It is wonderful to see the volunteers feeding the baby squirels, or checking an injured bird. They also had a fox, owl and goose in rehab. We were even lucky enough to see two birds, a seagull and pigeon, who had been rehabilitated, released! It is a bright and airy building.
