The Leadership Training Institute is an outreach program for high school sophomores in the greater Boston metropolitan and Cambridge areas. The objective of LTI is to teach motivated high school students the philosophy of leadership, the importance of teamwork, and the necessity of self-reflection. LTI seeks to enlighten students with the basics of leadership concepts while engaging them in a supportive mentorship with successful, experienced MIT mentors.
In LTI students will learn about the basics of leadership by examining what makes a good leader, the ideas behind leadership, and things such as professionalism and community service. We will also be having MIT Deans and MIT Admissions Officers come in to give presentations and talk to the students.
The program will start in February 2008 and continue through May. The program workshops will to be held on Sundays, from 12-4pm, at MIT for a total of twelve sessions. The students will put their new knowledge into action by developing a project throughout the semester that utilizes their leadership skills while benefiting others. Each student will present his or her project at the end of the program and there will be the possibility of obtaining a grant to implement their project.
At this time we are recruiting students and would like to inform as many students as possible about our program. If you could give this information to students and parents we would appreciate your efforts. We could also come in to give a presentation to the sophomore students about LTI and the application process. In addition, I could send you brochures.
