The Gallery at Dunia presents 'Movement,' an exhibit of acrylic paintings, silkscreened T-shirts and the printed word by Gary Lynn and Danielle Ciminero, an artist-adventurer collaborative who make up Unyted Movement, and who currently make their home in Charleston, Rhode Island. Unyted Movement seeks to bring a new consciousness to this world.

As befits the venue, Unyted Movement uses organic and fair-trade inputs in everything they create. The Gallery at Dunia will exhibit 'Movement' from June 1 through August 29, and host a reception for the artists on Sunday, June 21 from 2 to 5 PM.

All are welcome, and admission is free. Fifteen percent of the sales proceeds from 'Movement' artwork will be donated to Oxfam America ww.oxfamamerica.org), an international relief and development organization that creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and injustice.

To take in the work of Lynn and Ciminero is to see the world (or 'worlds' – many Unyted Movement images hover between the material and ethereal) through an unjaded lens. 'Infiniteloop' (2008) uses a simple, repeating line motif to create an illusion of depth that evokes the shadows a candlelit wrought iron fence might throw against a nearby wall. Even the more Earthly 'Nature Walk' (2009) transcends mere physicality; ironically, the flatness of its perspective creates a dreamlike effect. Many of the images straddle the line between fine art and design, similar to the way folk artists in Asia's Hmong tribe depict folk stories in needlepoint, or certain Africans infuse mythology into batik prints. The pair's ongoing global odyssey informs these images and fuels their writing. Be Free! Lessons Learned from the School of Life chronicles these travels in a large-format book that overlays photos of sundrenched naturescape with diary-entry musings. Due out in June 2009, advance copies will be available at Dunia.

For Lynn and Ciminero, travel, art, and writing are all part of a single life-mission that combines wanderlust with a unique social activism. 'It's all about inspiring and bringing out the best in others,' explained Gary Lynn, Unyted Movement's unofficial spokesman. 'If we can help convince folks of their own true potential, then we can all be a part of the solution.'
