Shannon Heaton’s folk musical for clever kids and their parents.
With traditional (“trad”) and original Irish-style folk songs, Shannon Heaton’s inaugural Trad Kids show, “The Cheering-Up Cupcake Party,” tells the story of Agnes Mouse and the friends who come to her strawberry-and-spinach cupcake ball.
* Saturday September 15, 10:30am, Club Passim, 47 Palmer St, Harvard Square
* Saturday September 22, 10:30am, Club Passim, 47 Palmer St, Harvard Square
* $10 for parents, $5 for kids. Babies are free.
With Heaton on voice/Irish flute, Cara Frankowicz on fiddle, Andy Cambria on guitar, and Matt Heaton on bodhran/bouzouki, this interactive musical was created for 5-8 year olds. But toddlers will also enjoy the music and silly characters (a book-loving mouse, a cheerful frog, a shy and polite toad, and a wacky truck-loving lizard). And despite best efforts, older siblings will probably also giggle.
“Trad Kids” celebrates self-expression with its diverse and lovable cast. The 40-minute-long show highlights team building, social skills, and creative participation! Kids learn new vocabulary words—and become empowered to express themselves thoughtfully and eloquently. Parents will dig the smart music and humor.

- Parents with little babies: go to concerts with your little ones. It's okay if they cry. Sit near the back so you can sneak out if you feel it is getting disruptive. And feel free to nurse during the show.
