Art in a variety of media by 16 resident artists working in former Claflin School since 1988. Growing trend for both affordable housing for artists and repurposing of vacant buildings

Work in a variety of media by 16 resident artists who have been living and working in Newton’s former Claflin Elementary School since 1988 will be shown.

The relationship between the city and the studios is reflective of the growing trend in the 1980’s for both affordable housing for artists and the reuse and repurposing of vacant buildings.

Artists who have been there since its inception, as well as residents who have moved in during the 27 years of the studio’s existence, will be on view.

Exhibiting artists include Michael Beatty, Jacqueline Bernat, Matthew Brand, Anthony Fisher, Gregory Miguel Gomez, Judy Haberl, Ralph Helmick, Will Howcroft, Bob Lewis, Louise Marshall, Scattergood-Moore, Abelardo Morell, Roberta Paul, Ellen Rounseville, Wendy Seller and Harvey Low Simons.

Opening Reception May 15 with music by Neil Miller.
