Samuel Zyman is acknowledged as one of the leading Mexican composers on the international scene today.

He has created symphonies, chamber music, choral music and film music.

He collaborates with extraordinary musicians including cellists Yo-Yo Ma and Carlos Prieto.

Zyman’s music captures the listener’s attention from the first measures to the last notes of each piece.

The Suite of La Mancha puts together three of his favorite instruments in a series of Cervantine evocations that are able to recall the essence of the Spanish music from the “Siglo de Oro” (Golden Century) and Cervantes’ travels and encounters throughout the Mediterranean world.

Sephardic and Middle-Eastern music are embodied in Zyman’s musical language.

Trío Boehm
Marisa Canales, flute (Mexico)
Patrick Jee, violoncello (US)
Moisès Fernández Via, piano (Spain)

Flautist Marisa Canales has become a prime model in the interpretation of Samuel Zyman’s music for her instrument.

She commissioned and premiered his two sonatas, his two concertos and the Suite de La Mancha.

She has played his compositions with great success in several countries in the Americas and Europe.

Patrick Jee, cellist at the New York Philharmonic and professor at the New York University School of Music, has played as soloist with national and international orchestras and has won several renowned international competitions.

His recording of Zyman’s “Sonata para Chelo (Cello)”, right after winning the first place prize in the “Concurso Internacional Carlos Prieto,' has received excellent reviews.

Moisés Fernández Via is a brilliant Catalan pianist, who balances his artistic work with his endeavors to bring music and other arts to hospitals and care centers in the Boston area.

His recordings have been acclaimed by the international press due to their remarkable elegance, musicality and originality.

This event is free and open to the public!

Samuel Zyman will give a composition masterclass on 10/28 from 10-12pm at Boston University.

From the series Cervantine Stories, Quixotic Moments in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes (1616-2016).

Sponsored by the College of Fine Arts and the Voces Hispánicas/Hispanic Voices initiative of the Department of Romance Studies of Boston University, with the generous financial support of Santander Universities Global Division and the Consulate General of Mexico in Boston.
