Shop from 300 of America's Finest Craft Artists at the Annual Christmas Festival, a festive holiday tradition, heralds in the season at Boston’s Seaport World Trade Center with the largest fine art and craft show in New England. Featuring the work of over 300 of the nation’s most acclaimed artists and master craftsmen, the Christmas Festival promises a shopping treasure trove of one-of-a-kind gifts, designer fashions, fine jewelry, gourmet treats, holiday décor and more.
A unique aspect of the event is the rare opportunity it offers festival-goers to meet the artisans, discuss their work and commission custom pieces destined to become tomorrow’s heirlooms.
A popular Festival highlight will be the Gingerbread House Competition, where Top Chefs create gingerbread masterpieces to be judged by a celebrity panel and sold with proceeds benefiting Share Our Strength.
Fashion mavens should check out Mindau Linen of Boxborough, MA, who avoids making products from synthetic or man-made materials. Everything, including buttons, is made from natural materials, such as shell, wood or horn. Jilly Bean Bags from Natick and Cape Cod, MA, recycle denim pants, skirts and shorts to make into handbags. Sea Stones of Windham, NH, collect New England beach stones to hand make fine home décor and gift items. Stones are collected from private rivers and beaches all over New England with permission. When a stone is found another one is “replanted” so that someday the ocean will wash up a replacement for a new art creation.
Don’t forget about your furry friends! Daisy Mack’s Doggie Gourmet of Bowdoinham, ME, offers treats made from 100% USDA human grade ingredients and are free of added preservatives, fillers and animal byproducts. “Perfectly baked, not perfectly shaped” is their motto. Odd, but delicious, shapes allow them to include 99% of everything they produce, instead of wasting the treats by making cute shapes.
And for the Java junkies, The Greenest Bean from Andover, MA, offers locally micro-roasted coffee. They start with raw (green) beans which are organic and fair trade and use eco-friendly bags and cups.
