In this workshop for students age 13 to 18, participants will use their skills and creativity to research, script and role play members of the 19th century Harvard Shaker community. Using original journals and artifacts from the Fruitlands collection, students will gain an understanding of the Shaker beliefs and way of life. Each student will adopt the identity of a real person from the Shaker village and concentrate on the journals of that person.

From this study, the student will write several scenarios that illustrate the subject's beliefs, personality, daily responsibilities and interactions with other members of the village. During a weekend at Fruitlands, these 'Shakers' will interact with each other and with visitors in impromptu conversations as well as scheduled monologues and group scenes.
