Using original journals and artifacts from the Fruitlands collection, students will gain an understanding of the Fruitlands Transcendentalist way of life. Each student will adopt the identity of a real person from the Fruitlands community and concentrate on the journals of that person.
From this study, the student will write several scenarios that illustrate the subject's beliefs, personality, daily responsibilities and interactions with other members of Fruitlands. During a weekend at Fruitlands, these 'Transcendentalists' will interact with each other and with visitors in impromptu conversations as well as scheduled monologues and group scenes.
