'Cinderella' By Kaleidoscope Children's Theatre At Cohasset's Music Circus, Fri 10 Aug 2007
I've taken my 6 year old daughter to this play the past 3 years, and this year I brought my second daughter who is now 3. I bring them to this venue because it is professional, yet simplistic (thus the great price for tickets), has festive music and isn't too long for young children to sit through. I really enjoy the tent atmosphere and the grounds are very clean. I'm a sensitive Mom about what my kids watch on TV, so some parts of the play I wince at when the step-sisters are ganging up on Cinderella, but the nice way the story ends overtakes my concerns about that. I also think their screechy voices make it hard for little kids to understand, so they probably don’t “get” all of it. I also take that opportunity to discuss how rude the sisters are and how that is not the correct way to behave. Most little girls are dressed in their princess cloths, and there is some paraphernalia for sale like crowns, wands, dolls, etc. I was pleased to see the cost range was $5-12 for almost everything. The food is a bit more expensive ($8 for 2 popcorns and a Starburst packet). After the play, kids can wait in a fairly quick line to meet the actors and get their autographs. The actors stay in character, but are very friendly. Parking is free, but do not believe the sign that says that going right out of the lot gets you to 3A quickly. My friend and I have gotten lost a few times trying that. It is worth staying for the autographs to give the parking lot time to empty.
