Glazes come in transparent, opaque, matt, shiny, satin and textured surfaces. We’ll be firing your glazed ceramic creations in a kiln that reaches temperatures of between 1828°F and 1888°F, so they can hold water and are guaranteed food and beverage safe. We’ll explore other popular techniques like underglazing, Majolica glazing and the use of a puffy slip trailing line that melts into glaze, used to outline different color fields.

You’ll learn step-by-step glazing techniques including brushing, sponging and dipping, as each achieves different results. We’ll have bisqued pottery and tiles for you to “try out” glazing techniques. Those who made Yixing Teapots or tiles during the January and February clay workshops may bring those bisqued pieces to this workshop for glazing.
