Sketch face-to-face with a zebra, ostrich, tiger, or moose as we learn to draw animals from the museum's collections. With materials that we provide, students focus on different animal each week and practice using different media. By the end of this six-week course, students will have gained greater confidence in their expressive skills as well as a new appreciation for the animal world. Students are welcome to attend additional sessions to deepen their experience.
Young Scientists/ Animal Artists
Come be a part of the museum community. After-school clubs offer kids the opportunity to study a particular topic in depth in a fun, exploratory setting.
Dates and times
Each session meets for six Tuesdays, from 3:40 to 5:00 p.m.
Session II: October 28 - December 16 (No class November 11 and 25)
Session III: January 6 - February 10
Session IV: February 24 - April 7 (No class March 17)
Session V: April 28 - June 2

$120 non-members; $108 members (10% discount)
Session 2
Young Scientist topic: Animal Anatomy
In this session we’ll explore animal anatomy using shells, skeletons, and live animals to discover how animals’ bodies work.
Session 3
Young Scientist topic: Color in Nature
In this session we’ll study the diverse palette of colors in nature using specimens, live animals, and exhibits to explore camouflage, mimicry, warning colors, and more.
Session 4
Young Scientist topic: Reptiles Past and Present
In this session we’ll explore modern reptiles and their dinosaur relatives using live animals, fossils, skeletons, and our amazing fossil exhibits.
Session 5
Young Scientist topic: Plants- At the Root of It All
In this session we’ll discover why plants are some of the most amazing living things on earth by exploring outside and using specimens and live animals.
