Did you miss the American Idol try-outs this year? Well, you don’t need Simon Cowell to advance your music career, we’ve got you covered!

This spring learn how to write and record your own songs at the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE). This workshop will be held over the course of two class days. During class one students will learn about different song structures, common chord progressions in various styles of music and three different songwriting methods.

In the second class students will learn how to record their own songs, about the different types of equipment involved, and how to use it. This class is geared toward singer/guitar players, but other instrumentalists are welcome! Please note that students should have enough skill with their instrument to be comfortable playing complete songs.

About the Instructor:
Derrick Campbell started teaching guitar in 1992, and graduated from Wright State University in 1995 with a B.A. in Mass Communications. In addition to teaching group guitar lessons at the BCAE, he also teaches private guitar lessons at Music Maker Studios in Brighton and at Nobles and Greenough in Dedham. On the weekends, he performs with his band Sound Asylum, and has also performed with local bands such as Dick and Jane, Ransom, Woot, Motherfunk, Grumpy Jones, Double Take, Scarecrow, and Jessica Perry.
