The Brighton-Allston Heritage Museum will open it's newest exhibition called 'Women of Vision' on May 28th from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM with a free opening reception that's open to the public. The guest of honor at the reception will be Mary Jane England, M.D, President of Regis College.
This exhibition illustrates the role of women in American life, as portrayed by the examples of 16 remarkable women and women's organizations in Allston-Brighton over the past 250 years. These individuals and organizations are representative of the many women throughout America that fought and marched against sex discrimination and inequality in economic social, cultural, governmental, and religious institutions. These courageous struggles have helped secure a high degree of gender equality in American society.
The exhibition includes: original paintings, original photographs, textiles, decorative arts, historical settings, artifacts, signs, posters, books, documents, ephemera, dioramas, slide-shows, videos, and interactive stations to help visitors to be inspired and to learn. One of the highlights of the exhibition is a large-scale court house, which represents the legal struggles that women have had and continue to have in American society. The exhibition, funded through Brighton-Allston 200, Inc., will run through next April. The regular hours of the museum are Tuesday-Friday and the Second an Fourth Saturday, Noon-4:00 PM. The museum is located in Brighton Center at 20 Chestnut Hill Avenue in the Veronica B. Smith Multi-Service Senior Center, and its wheelchair accessible. It's also on the 57, 65 and 86 routes.

Women Of Vision Exhibition, Wed 25 Feb 2009
The multi-media exhibition has been getting lots of people of all ages to view it which has been extended to November 30, 2009. There is Special Exhibition Party to celebrate both this exhibition and the Brighton-Allston Heritage Museum 2nd BIrthday on Saturday, February 28, 2009 from 1-3 PM. Admission is free and all are welcome. Everyone that comes loves being able to cast a vote using the old-fashion voting machine with its levers. The music and videos are great as well. The theme of equality for women is carried out throughout the exhibition and makes people think and ponder, There are several pieces of contemporary paintings by Brighton women artists. These artists will be given special recognition at the party on Feb. 28.
