Experience what it’s like to be a firefighter today and learn about the progress made over the last three hundred years through historic and contemporary equipment, artifacts, apparel and hands-on activities.

Feel the weight of a firefighter’s uniform, time yourself as you hook up a fire hose and travel through an obstacle course to perform a rescue.

Investigate how America’s great fires and advances in technology led to fire prevention, improvements in building construction and the changing role of today’s fire departments. Uncover the history behind brotherhood traditions of bagpipes and Dalmatians, and read the stories of today’s heroes.

Marvel at the handpainted leather fire buckets of the early 1800's and the horse-drawn hand-tubs and ladder trucks, a fire grendade, a collection of fire nozzels, and read the stories of fires that changed the way fires are fought today.

$7.00 Adults, $6.00 Seniors, $5.00 Children ages 2 & up. Members free. Group rates available. Handicapped Accessibility: The Museum is handicapped accessible throughout with the exception of the second floor of the 17th century Claflin Richards House.

Driving: From points south: Take Route 128 north to exit 20-A (Route 1A - Hamilton). Follow Route 1A north for 2.3 miles. The Museum is on the right before the Wenham Town Hall.
A 30 MINUTE DRIVE FROM BOSTON OR NEWBURYPORT
LOCATED BETWEEN BEVERLY AND HAMILTON MASS ON RTE 1A
From points north: Take Route 95 South to Route 128 North. Then follow the directions as above.

Public Transportation:
B&M Commuter Rail to Hamilton-Wenham; 15-minute scenic walk south from the depot on Route 1A.

  • COME EARLY! Visit the museum's model train gallery, international doll collection, dollhouses, antique toys, costumes and local history exhibits.

  • Free parking at the museum is available including limited handicap parking next to the museum. Additional parking is available across the street from the Wenham Fire Station and the First Church of Wenham.
