Animal Planet Expo 2007I attended this event in hopes that Animal Planet learned their lessons from last year's mistakes BC subscribers described, and I would say it was a gamble worth taking. I think the key was that we arrived right after it opened at 10AM so we had close parking and it wasn't too crowded yet. When we left at noon the lines for the bouncy house and bouncy relay were getting too long for my kids to wait through, but you could probably have a good view of the stage show and dog Frisbee show, if you got your spot before those things began. Overall it was a nice event, especially for being free, but if I had arrived later and had to sit in the traffic we observed while leaving, I wouldn't have liked it as much.
I found it clean (including the bathrooms), and appreciated the misting house to cool down in. There were food concessions outside the entrance to the Expo. My 3 year old was the one who announced, 'I want to go home,' probably due to the heat and that she is still too young to truly appreciate the idea of it all, but they did have cute toddler entertainment like stacking large squares to make an animal, and a caterpillar crawl. The Kids Endurance Zone if for ages 6-18, just fyi.
Could Have Been BetterI would say its more geered for young children. I went with my 18 year old daughter and we drove over an hour to get there. The traffic wasn't to bad. We maybe waited 15 min. to get parked. It was great weather but they didn't have too many animals and it was really small. I expected much more from Animal Planet. The Show was good. I think we were only there for about an hour and a half. I was disappointed. There were a few games for kids with prizes that was nice. Over all not to bad just not enough animals!!!!
Better this yearI read the reviews from last year and the bulk of them said 'Awful'. If we had adhered to those reviews, we might not have gone, but we did and we found it really great. My husband and I and our rescued Cairn Terrier, Rowdy, thoroughly enjoyed the outing. We were excited to meet so many friendly people and dogs and all the events were very well run and entertaining. Perhaps the key is, we went early, arrived about 10 minutes before opening, found close parking and not very long lines at attractions. And the weather was superb - sunny, cool and not humid. If it had been like the day before - hot and humid - we couldn't have gone. But Sunday was close to perfect. We are looking forward to next year's event.
Animal Planet ExpoI brought my daughter in 2006 to meet Jeff Corwin, she is a big fan. He was late but he was great, a very nice guy. The rest of the expo, however, was awfull!!. We got there just before it opened, while we waited in line a poor little boy passed out from the heat, we had to call 911. There was no one there ushering people throught the exhibits, so poeple took their time, the result, we waited 60 to 90 minutes for each event, including lunch!. People brought their pets, some let them pee and poop any place and didn't bother to pick it up(100 degrees and the smell of poop....ugh!!) One guy actually poured water on his dogs poop to make it go away, what planet is he from???. And again, no one there to stop this or patrol. They need order, more people working there, and more and better shows. The shows are something out of my back yard that my daughter and her little friends would have put on for the neighbors
Not Worth ItAs stated many times, way too many people, horrible parking planning (they can do better -- after all, they park thousands every year when the Topsfield Fair comes), long lines, not much to see, etc., etc. Very disappointing although we are big Animal Planet fans.
Download Of PicturesWe went to the expo on 8/05/06. My children had their pictures taken and we were told we could download the pictures after Tuesday, August 08. When I went to the web address they give on the card the site cannot be found. Has anyone been able to access their pictures online? We also thought that the expo would have been better with either a lot less people or on a larger lot with more things to see.
Awful From The Moment It OpenedWe arrived at 9:45am, 15 minutes before the expo opened. Traffic was fine, as was parking. But, there were already several hundred people in line. Once the gates opened there was immediately LONG lines at every booth. This was horrible. Was not geared up for the crowds they had. Also, very little interest to toddlers. We left after 30 minutes and we only stayed that long to make the drive worth it. If they do this again next year, I would definitely not recommend it.
Animal Planet ExpoThis was awful! The traffic to get into the fairgrounds was horrendous. It was over-crowded and definitely NOT 'toddler friendly' What a waste of a beautiful day, sitting in traffic along Boston Road. I will never attend this event again.
Animal Planet ExpoJust awful. Waited 2 hours to get into it, traffic crawling on Rte 1. Once inside lines everywhere. Not geared towards younger children at all. The welcome tent had zero information. The person sitting in the tent didn't even acknowledge us. All we saw was lines lines and more lines. Very disappointing event, not even close to the hype. Not even sure the dogs enjoyed it.
