Learn how our forbears 'pumped iron' at the annual Iron Pour at the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site, 244 Central St., Saugus.

Step back 400 years as students from the Mass. College of Art Iron Guild melt and cast iron. Watch the Guild’s furnace melt iron into liquid, which is then poured into molds and hardens into shape.

Visitors will have an exciting, hands-on opportunity to scratch a design into a sand mold and see it cast in hot, liquid iron.

You can also design your own iron tile that you can take home! Scratch your design into a sand mold, watch the molten liquid poured, wait for it to cool and the iron tile is yours to take home.

Scratch molds are available on a first-come-first-served basis, starting at 11 am. The pouring is tentatively scheduled for between 12 noon and 1 pm.

This free event takes place on the grounds of Saugus Iron Works. Hands-on participation is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Bring your lawn chair and a picnic lunch.
