Make Music Harvard Square kicks off at 1:00 pm, when musicians take over the streets of Harvard Square to celebrate the beginning of summer. Professional and amateur musicians take to the streets to entertain loyal fans and t new audiences. Make Music Harvard Square attracts people in the music industry, music lovers, and those just out for a bite to eat and a stroll in Harvard Square.
Last year despite a rain shower, 120 bands and solo performers treated the people of Harvard Square to music from every genre including Rock and Roll, Caribbean Music, the Blues, R&B, Latin, Gypsy, Folk, World Fusion, Jazz, A Capella singing, Glam Rock, Pop, Hip-hop, Choral Singing, DJs mixing and mashing, and more. A Make Music information booth is set-up at Brattle Street and Palmer Street where musicians can check-in and visitors may pick-up event programs that include maps and entertainment schedules
Make Music Harvard Square was inspired by the “Fête de la Musique” a street-music festival which started 28 years ago in Paris. The “Fête de la Musique” is now celebrated under many names, in more than 300 cities in 108 countries from London to Beijing to Buenos Aires, all on the same day. Harvard Square is now an exciting facet of this worldwide celebration! Make Music Harvard Square is produced by the Harvard Square Business Association along with volunteers from Swissnex Boston, Cultural Services of the French Consulate in Boston, Marie Landel & Associates, the International School of Boston (located in Cambridge), Boston Accueil, and Sonic Bids.
