On Saturday at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM kids 3 and up will love Scholastic/Weston Woods Studios' animated adaptations of some of the most well known children’s picture books of recent years.

Geared toward children ages 3-11, this year includes a large number of premieres, including: THE CURIOUS GARDEN by Peter Brown, animated by Watertown’s Soup2Nuts; CHICKEN LITTLE by Rebecca and Ed Emberly also animated by Soup2Nuts; NAKED MOLE RAT GETS DRESSED and PIGEON FINDS A HOT DOG by Mo Willems; THE NORTH STAR by Peter Reynolds and SPLAT THE CAT by Robert Scotton, both by Boston-based Fablevision and narrated by Tim Curry; Caldecott winner THE LION AND THE MOUSE by Jerry Pinkney; KATE LOVES THE KITTENS by John Himmelman; and SPOON, written and narrated by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Favorites from recent years include: CRAZY HAIR DAY by Barney Saltzer, narrated by Zach Braff; THERE WAS AN OLD LADY WHO SWALLOWED A FLY by Simms Taback, narrated and sung by Cindy Lauper; Peter Reynold’s THE DOT; MUSICAL MAX by Robert Kraus, narrated by Mary Beth Hurt; and GOODNIGHT GORILLA by Peggy Rathmann.

Saturday from 2:30-3:30 PM offers “What a Wonderful World,” a fast-paced shorts program curated by the Seattle Children’s Film Festival that goes around the world with films that are musical, moving, funny, and full of adventure. Films include THE MOTH & THE FIREFLY (USA), BETTY THE DOLL (Sweden), ELEPHANTS (Wales), NAPPY HEADS (Canada), THE MOUSE THAT SOARED (USA), CRANE AND DIGGER (Germany), HEAD DWELLERS (Hungary), GETTING DAD (Australia), FOR A FISTFUL OF SNOW (Switzerland), and many others.

At 2:30 PM on Saturday “What a Wonderful World” offers a fast-paced shorts program curated by the Seattle Children’s Film Festival that goes around the world with films that are musical, moving, funny, and full of adventure.

On Sunday at 3:30 PM, you can be one of the first to see a pre-opening screening of the acclaimed anime film 'Summer Wars' that's geared toward children 9 and up. Hayao Miyazaki ('Spirited Away') protégé Mamoru Hosada's futuristic anime film is about an 11th grade math genius who agrees to take a summer job in his crush’s hometown of Nagano, Japan. His job is to pretend to be a woman’s fiancé during her family matriarch’s 90th birthday celebration. Meanwhile, his attempt to solve a mathematical equation causes a parallel world's collision with earth. A science-fiction thriller with a sweet-natured extended-family drama at its core, this full-length film makes a good argument for close-knit relationships and an awareness of technology’s distortable flaws.
