Wong; the film version of 'Knuffle Bunny,' former comic Mo Willems' Caldecott-winning book, which was awarded the prestigious Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children's Video and is narrated by Willem and his daughter Trixie; and Willem's 'Leonardo the Terrible Monster.'

Animated Best Loved Children’s Books (age 4-9): Program II

Continuation of the morning program with nearly an entire new group of animated films for children from Scholastic/Weston Woods Studios, including the Boston premieres of: 'John Paul, George, and Ben,' a humorous, yet factual look at five lads who grew up to become the founding fathers of the United States narrated by James Earl Jones (named Best Illustrated Book of the Year by the NY Times as well as Book of the Year by School Library Journal); 'Diary of a Spider,' the follow-up to Harry Bliss's enormously popular Diary of a Worm, which will also be shown; and 'How Do Monsters Get Well,' the latest in the popular series by Jane Yolen and illustrated by Mark Teague.

Saturday, Nov. 10, 3:00 PM
Rhythms of the World (all ages)

Parents' Choice award-winning storyteller Davis Bates leads an exciting music and storytelling program that celebrates reading and cultural diversity. Participatory songs, international folktales, and family stories and humor combine to make this an ideal family event for all ages. Bates begins with a song from Zimbabwe, and by the end of the show he has everyone up dancing and singing.

Sunday, Nov. 11, 1:00 PM
EDISON: THE WIZARD OF LIGHT (age 7 & up)

In this award-winning production, inventor Thomas Edison’s prototype, the moviemaking “kinetoscope,” is nearly destroyed by Jack, a scruffy twelve year-old orphan who crashes into Edison’s lab while fleeing a truant officer. Jack eventually becomes an apprentice to Edison, sharing in the adventure of the world’s greatest inventor as they both work to create the world’s first motion pictures. By permission of Devine Entertainment.

Sunday, Nov. 11, 3:00 PM
Best of Belmont Youth Video Festival (all ages)

Featuring the best films from Belmont’s first-ever video festival this past summer plus videos made during the “How to Make a Movie in One Day” workshops. One lucky audience member will win a film-related special door prize. Presented by Belmont Media Center, Waverly Arts, and Belmont Youth Commission.

Sunday, Nov. 11, 7:00 PM
Hula girls (age 12 to adult): Boston premiere!

In a desperate attempt to save the local economy when faced with the closing of their coal mine in a remote town in northern Japan, the town elders decide to cash in on the Polynesian craze by building a Hawaiian theme park, complete with hula dancers. The only problem: no one knows how to dance the hula. Things get worse when they import an alcoholic hula teacher from Tokyo, and the only ones who sign up for classes are a handful of misfits. Set in 1965 and based on a true story, the film is the heartwarming comedy about a group of coal miners’ daughters who took a chance. Japan’s official entry to the 2006 Academy Awards.

Supported in kind by Scholastic Books/Weston Woods Studios, The Discovery Museums in Acton, the Studio Cinema, Community Newspaper Company, and Devine Entertainment.
