The City of Boston originated the First Night concept -- an alcohol-free New Year's Eve celebration for the entire. Boston's city-wide First Night party includes hundreds of different indoor and outdoor locations, performances, and a thousand musical, dance, theater and other artistic performers.
First Night is a day long Festival celebrating art and community in Boston. Perfect for Families of any age. View Complete Event Schedule

Check out the Family Festival at the Hynes Convention Center from 1-5pm. After, come outside to check out the Metro Boston Grand Procession down Boylston Street to Boston Common.
At 7pm, the Boston Family Fireworks presented by Mayor Thomas M. Menino and The Mugar Foundation. Then enjoy your evening with dance, comedy, spoken word, theater and almost every type of music available.
How do you get in on all the fun? A First Night button is all you need. $18 gets you into all the action all day long and helps to support First Night, a private non-profit organization.

First Night Buttons are on sale for $18 at the Boston Common Visitor Information Center, the Prudential Visitor Information Center, and hundreds of additional locations. **Children under 4 are admitted free to all events.

About the First Night Tradition:
First Night, Inc. is an independent, nonprofit organization that produces First Night Boston, the largest New Year's Eve celebration in North America, and manages First Night's Neighborhood Network, a community-based outreach program that serves the greater Boston area. This New Year, feast your senses, raise your spirits, make your mark, join in!
Other First Night Cities:
If you can't attend First Night Boston's New Year's celebration or if you have family and friends in another city there are over 150 First Night cities to choose from. Locally, you can check out additional events in the towns of Beverly, Chatham, New Bedford and Worcester.

- PLAN AHEAD
- Design your own First Night! It’s impossible to see everything, so pick a few performances and plan back-up options, in case your first choice is full.
- GET AN EARLY START
- Admission to performances is first-come, first-served. Events begin at scheduled times and venues are cleared between performances. There is no reserved seating. Late admission is at the discretion of site management.
- ROAD CLOSINGS
- Roads are closed at the discretion of the Boston Police based on pedestrian traffic flow. Boylston Street, Dartmouth Street and Charles Street (between Boylston and Beacon Streets) are closed beginning at 4:00pm for the Grand Procession. Atlantic Avenue and adjoining streets will be closed later in the evening for the midnight fireworks.
