Summer means barbecues for many and unbearable hunger for others.
You can help FEED the NEED on Saturday, May 13 at the 5K Family Walk/Run at the LDS Church on 91 Jordan Road in Franklin.

Registration
Register at www.feedtheneed.org or on race day from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m.; race starts promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Entry Fee
Entry fee is 25 non-perishable food items. For information on FEED the NEED, the Walk/Run and future events, contact Jennifer Ashley at (781) 925-9939 or visit the website.

Imagine missing dinner last night, then breakfast this morning. No bowl of cereal, no bagel, absolutely no sustenance to get you through the day. This is not just a worst-case scenario. It’s a heartbreaking reality that thousands of Massachusetts’ kids and their families face every single day.

By joining in on a day of fun for the whole family, the community can help stock the shelves of the Franklin Food Pantry. Saturday, May 13th is that day.

Local Hunger Statistics
According to the Franklin Food Pantry, 1 in 12 children in Franklin go to school “food insecure.” Entry fees of 25 non-perishable food items allow the Franklin Food Pantry to help chronically poor, disabled, elderly, under-employed, unemployed and financially stressed residents in 16 surrounding towns.

One of the largest and most efficient social service providers in the region, the Franklin Food Pantry distributed over 110,527 lbs. of food in 2004-2005. Over 13,932 households were recipients of donations. While many small pantries have closed their doors or have limited hours of pickup, the Franklin Food Pantry allows the working poor the opportunity to visit the pantry on their schedule.

Many clients work in the Franklin area and come on their lunch breaks or after work for food. Hospitals refer their chemotherapy patients to the Pantry. Many of the needy that visit the pantry have been impacted by financial problems as a result of unemployment (lay-offs and downsizing), under employment (part-time), divorce, disability, health, domestic violence, homelessness, old age, and rising food and housing costs.

About FEED the NEED
Feed the Need, Inc. is an all-volunteer community organization dedicated to providing nonperishable canned foods year-round to local food pantries. FEED the NEED also concentrates on diminishing hunger by promoting education and awareness of local hunger issues and food needs by sponsoring physical activities and events for communities. Together with communities surrounding Boston, over 28,500 cans of food were raised in previous Feed the Need events.

Kids and adults can make a difference by partnering with Feed the Need at the 5K Family Walk/Run at LDS Church, 91 Jordan Road, in Franklin.
