Musical performances range from a concert by the Boston Children’s Chorus to the Bob Christopherson Holiday Jazz Trio, as well as seasonal music by local college a cappella groups. MFA for the Holidays also includes book readings and signings by popular local authors and the opportunity for children to receive free books (hundreds of books will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis). Catie Copley, the friendly black lab featured in the book Catie Copley by Deborah Kovacs, will make a special appearance when her book is read and is available for “pawtographs.”

Visitors can also marvel at a gingerbread replica of Copley Square (the original site of the Museum of Fine Arts), created by chefs from the North Shore Community College, and members enjoy a 20% discount in the MFA Bookstore and Shop.

4-starCafeteria closed
This annual MFA event is wonderful. But WHY didn't the website state the CAFETERIA was CLOSED! BIG problem with children. The upstairs cafe and restaurant are totally not kid friendly (goat cheese salad for $17, anyone?) . Luckily we'd packed some things, and sent one parent on a two-block trek to Northeastern University for something from Panera. On the other hand, the art projects and Underground Railway Theater were just wonderful. If the MFA wants to attract families, they'd better get real.
5-starFun time at MFA holiday event
The MFA holiday events -- we went last Saturday -- were a fun way to introduce a five-year-old to the Museum. There were challenging craft projects in the galleries, festive music and short performances. The food in the downstairs cafeteria is reasonable and great. Parking's a killer though -- wish there were a cheaper alternative.
