Capitol Square’s third annual Dia de los Muertos Fiesta will take place Friday, November 1 from 6 to 9 PM. Capitol Square businesses invite everyone to come to East Arlington to enjoy the festivities.

In Mexico, Day of the Dead is a celebration of the lives of those who have passed on, with joyful images of flowered skulls and dancing skeletons. In Capitol Square, it means a fiesta along Mass Ave with Mexican food and a lively celebration of the arts.

Tastes of Mexico will be provided by Arlington’s popular Acitron Bistro and La Posada. Mexican dishes will be added to the menus of Anthony’s East Side Deli, Francesca’s Kitchen, and Sabatino’s Italian Kitchen. Flora will be featuring Mexican chocolate tarts, and Something Sweet Without Wheat will have skull cookies and flower cupcakes

There will be plenty of ways to indulge your sweet tooth! Participating businesses will hand out sugar skull candies. Personal Chef Ava Vatsky’s Mexican chocolate whoopie pies and brownies will be served at Luv and Other Gifts, and there will be a Tazo chocolate tasting at Maxima Gifts.

Enjoy Mexican folk music as Mariachi band “Mariachi Estrellas de Boston” roves from store to store throughout the evening. In addition, award-winning Boston singer and songwriter Billy Byron will be at Luv and Other Gifts resurrecting the delightfully spooky sounds of the antique pump organ anchored in the back of the store.

At Artbeat from 5:00 to 6:00, kids will be able to make skull decorations and get glow-in-the-dark tattoos while enjoying cookies provided by Quebrada Baking Company and agua fresca provided by Marbella Design Studio. From 6:00 to 9:00, Artbeat will offer Mexican tastings and paper flower making for all ages. There will also be a candle-lit alter where visitors can write memories of departed loved .

Artwear will hold a raffle for a beautiful milagro necklace while serving Mexican tastings. A reception and exhibit at 13FOREST Gallery will feature More Good on Paper – monotypes by Resa Blatman.
