It's a day to embrace the joys of an old-fashioned winter -- indoors and out. See ice harvested from the Mill Pond (weather accommodating), and learn how early New Englanders cut blocks of ice and shipped them around the world in the pre-Frigidaire era. Afterwards, warm up with hot cider, fireside tales, and heart-warming songs. The ice harvest demos, story telling, songs, puppet shows, and hearthside activities will be ongoing throughout the day.
Other activities include a special extended tour of the Center Village to learn how early New Englanders kept warm -- or at least tried to! Learn what folks could purchase from the Asa Knight Store to help them stave off the cold during the long winter. Hear about how native Americans greeted -- and survived -- winter. With good snowcover, there will be sleigh rides on the Common.
