Join Boston Children’s Museum as we celebrate the Year of the Snake at this year’s O-Shogatsu, or Japanese New Year celebration. Festivities will include live Taiko drumming by Odaiko New England, Shishi-Mai (lion dance), Chado tea ceremony demonstrations by Urasenke Boston, and Japanese song performances by Chorus Boston.
Families can also participate in Mochi-tsuki (rice-pounding ceremony), Koma-mawashi (Japanese top spinning) and other Japanese New Year games.
Boston Children’s Museum is home to the Japanese House (Kyo-no-Machiya), an authentic silk merchant’s house from Kyoto, Japan. The house will be decked out in New Year’s decorations for the event.
