Since its outbreak in March 2011, the conflict in Syria has cost the lives of more than 400,000 people, displaced more than 10 million people, and been punctuated by systematic and widespread atrocities and crimes against humanity.
As the Assad regime continues its attacks on Syrian civilians, the flow of refugees escaping violence is putting new pressure on the security, economic, and diplomatic challenges on the region and beyond.
