During this brown bag lunch discussion, Thomas Whalen will discuss his newest book, “A Higher Purpose”. He examines events and decisions that show how some of our presidents have demonstrated a capacity to place their political lives on the line for a higher purpose.
Examples include Jackson's attack on the Bank of the United States, Gerald Ford's pardoning of Richard Nixon, Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, Theodore Roosevelt's confrontation with the business trusts, Harry Truman's firing of General Douglas MacArthur, and John F. Kennedy's integration of the University of Alabama .
