Hailed for her expressive artistry and dazzling technique, 22-year-old cellist Sang-Eun Lee will make her debut at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in a performance alongside pianist Chris Jeon as part of the Sunday Concert Series.

The Washington Post praised Lee as “a prodigiously talented young artist with powerful technique and musical poise.”

The duo will perform with Falla, Suite Populaire Espagnole; Cassadó, Suite; Schumann, Adagio and Allegro; Schubert, Sonata in A Minor; Cassadó, Dance of the Green Devil.

From Seoul, Korea, Lee has performed solo concerts since age 11.

Starting at age nine, Lee studied at the Korean National University of Arts with Myung Wha Chung and Sang Min Park.

She currently attends the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where she works with Peter Wiley and Carter Brey.

She has performed with a number of leading orchestras including the Seoul Philharmonic under Myung-Whun Chung, the Suwon Philharmonic, the Prime Philharmonic, the Korean National University of Arts Orchestra, the Gangnam Symphony, and Great Mountains Music Festival orchestras.

The young musician is internationally renowned: at age 15, Lee won First Prize at the 2009 Johansen International Competition in Washington, D.C., Second Prize at the 2009 International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, and the Young Musician Prize of the Emanuel Feuermann Competition in Berlin.

She is also winner of the 2014 Young Concert Artists (YCA) International Auditions, First Prize at the 2014 YCA Auditions in Seoul, Korea, and Germany’s Kronberg Academy Cello Festival’s 2009 Ingrid zu Solms Culture Prize.

Often a sell-out event, the Sunday Concert Series will take place on Sunday, September 25 at 1:30 p.m., in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Calderwood Hall, located at 25 Evans Way, Boston, Mass.

Tickets are required, which may be purchased in advance or at the door, and include Museum admission: adults $27, seniors $24, members $17, students and children 7–17 $12 (children under 7 not admitted).
