During the warmer months, Children ages 3-9 with accompanying adults can explore the 45-acre grounds of the estate with the aid of an “activities backpack”. Children ages 3-9 and their accompanying adults explore the grounds and visit the llama, sheep, goats, and chickens on the farm. Each borrowed backpack contains binoculars, a magnifying glass, and age-appropriate activities.

Ring the bell at the mansion to get your backpack, and you’ll be ready for an outdoor adventure!

“Take a Walk” is available Monday through Friday, 9am to 3pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 3pm. One hour rental is $5 per backpack. Parking is free. A free pass may be obtained from the Waltham and Watertown Libraries. Group arrangements may be made for school groups, pre-schools, home-schools, and day-care providers. To reserve your backpack and for group arrangements call: (781) 894-2798.

Gore Place is located at 52 Gore Street, just off Route 20 (Main Street) near the Waltham/Watertown line. By public transportation: Take the Red Line to Central Square. Take the 70 or 70A bus toward Waltham. Gore Street is 1-1/4 miles West of Watertown Square. For more information call : (781) 894-2798.

Winter
With the aid of an “activities backpack”, children and their accompanying adults search for animal tracks; identify trees by their shapes, needles, or pinecones; and visit the llama, sheep, goats, and chickens on the farm. Each borrowed backpack contains binoculars, a magnifying glass, and activities appropriate for children ages 3-9. When the grounds are snow-covered, snowshoes for children and adults will also be available.

“Take a Winter Walk” is available Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 3:00pm, December 27 through March 31. Additional dates and times are Saturdays: February 24, March 3, 10, 17 & 24 from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

One hour rental: backpack $5; snowshoes $5. Parking is free. Group arrangements may be made for school groups, pre-schools, home-schools, and day-care providers. To reserve your backpack and/or snowshoes and for group arrangements call: (781) 894-2798. Just ring the bell at the Mansion to get your backpack and begin your winter adventure.
