The Frog, Toad and Salamander Show: Amphibians of Essex County is an interactive program designed to teach adults as well as children about over 15 species of frogs, toads and salamanders that live in Essex County.
The hands-on program will allow you to look at live amphibians such as tiny spring peepers and giant bullfrogs; listen to the breeding calls made by frogs and toads; and watch a short video of their breeding calls as well as their different hunting strategies. You can also take a look at 'secretive and elusive' salamanders, including spotted, red-backed and blue-spotted.
This program will be taught be Richard Wolniewicz, an author of various field guides and a producer of natural history videos. A new full-length DVD that Wolniewicz produced, 'The Frogs and Toads of Massachusetts,' will be available for sale and autographing after the show.
