Throughout the American Revolution, British troops raided the Massachusetts coast in search of military supplies, sometimes raiding private homes and fighting local militia. The Battle for Newbury reenacts a typical British raid on the New England coast. Over five hundred British and American Revolutionary War soldiers will camp (some distance apart) in the fields and skirmish throughout the weekend.
The major battle of the encampment will take place at 2:00 pm on Saturday, and the camp and grounds will be open to the public for demonstrations and drills, family activities, and music and dancing in the evening.
For a current schedule, see www.battlefornewsbury.org.
