The Melrose Family Room (MFR) is a non-profit, cooperative organization established in 1988 as a gathering place for families with infants and young children through age six. The MFR is a wonderful place to play, talk, discuss parenting concerns, and get to know families from Melrose and surrounding communities.
There are toys, games, arts and crafts supplies, and snacks and drinks in the room. We organize many special events including holiday parties, outings for the entire family, and special programs for children. Members may also rent the room for private parties on the weekend.
The room is open for drop-in play time Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm and Sunday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. From the beginning our home has been in the Green Street Baptist Church. We are not church affiliated, however the church is a strong supporter of the MFR, and has been very understanding of our needs as we have grown and changed. Currently we have about 75 member families.
Monthly meetings are held to discuss plans and policy decisions, and to hear suggestions, complaints and ideas. All members are invited and encouraged to attend. In March of each year members volunteer to fill various officer positions. Some of these positions include a free membership.
