The Clay Center will hold Weather Festival events in collaboration with the Blue Hill Weather Observatory and the National Weather Service in Taunton. Many activities have been planned for families and children. Free admission. (Some activities require purchase of tickets or kits.)
Mike Cenci Food Canteen will have lunch, snacks, and drinks available 10 am - 3 pm.
* There will be demonstrations, planetarium shows, lightning shows, kite-building, rocket launches, hands-on educational activities, and educational displays and handouts for all ages. Ride a Segway! Make Instant Snow! Talk on Amateur Radio!
* The 3rd grade Sunny Singers Weather Choir will perform at 12:30! The 6th grade Weather Watchers will present poster sessions at 10:30, 11:30, and 2:00.
Children under 12 must be accompanied by parents. No pets permitted on campus.

Discovery Dome Weather Shows!
Discovery Dome-- Hi-tech digital multi-media shows. (seats 35) -- Force Five - Extreme weather show.
Earth's weather can be friend or foe. Feel Mother Nature's fury - Extreme weather takes center stage in this realistic animated show revealing images not seen by the naked eye due to their life-threatening nature. Hunker down as you are hit by a Force 5 hurricane, tornado, and solar storm.
Lightning Demonstrations!
Electricity and lightning demonstration using Van de Graff Generator. Experiment safely with up to 400,000 volts of static electricity. (Courtesy of Mt. Washington Observatory, www.mountwashington.org)
Ride a Segway!
Ride a Segway! Ride the wave of the future! Segway of Northern New England will bring several Segways for people to try out. How do they work? Gyroscopes! What does this have to do with Weather? It's Science! Visit Segway's Web Site for more information.
Kite Flying!
Watch stunt kite demonstrations by the experts. Learn how to fly them. Many types of kites available to purchase and fly.
Model Rocketry!
Kit building and demonstrations. FlisKits, Inc., would like to welcome all rocketeers to our display table at the Weather Festival. Old and young, novice and expert, model and high power, all are welcome.
FlisKits, Inc. is bringing some of the FUN back to model rocketry. (Rocket flights only if weather permits.) (Kits available at special event prices.)

Kite Making

A Daytime Star Safari
JCL Educational Consultants will provide a variety of interactive activities about the sun, stars, and solar system. There will be solar telescopes, hands-on science projects, demonstrations of their Star Safari Program, and more! (Courtesy of JCL Educational Consultants, Sharon, MA, JC50@aol.com)

You, Your Shadow and the Sun: Interactions with Sun and the Earth’s Rotation.
Portraits of the Sun .... Solar Telescopes: What’s Happening on the Sun Right Now! A Three Pound Solar System : A Scaled Solar System Interactive Model Using Three Pounds of Play Dough.
What If, Interactive - Astro Questions... i.e. Is Pluto a planet? If one travels at the speed of light will he/she stay young?
Dropping a ball down an imaginary perfect hole, linked to the North and South Poles; what would happen to this ball ? Would the ball travel straight through the Earth and out to space? Would the ball stop at the center of the Earth and remain there or would the ball continue to travel up and down between the north and south poles forever?
With Pleasure and Pride, JCL Educational Consultants will be giving an interactive sample of our Star Safari Program and will display other company services as well.
Early Learning Projects
For younger children there will be an activity table for coloring and construction projects on weather subjects. Make clouds, weather greeting cards, leaf prints, paper snowflakes.
Amateur Radio Table! (HAM Radio)
HAM Radio operators - They can talk to the Space Station ! They report extreme weather conditions (SKYWARN). Listen to them on shortwave radios. Talk to them on Amateur radios. (courtesy of Clay Center Amateur Radio Club (CC-ARC) and the Amateur Radio Relay League)
Tornado Tubes and Instant Snow!
Make a tornado in a bottle that you can take home. Tubes $1, kits $2. Make SNOW! Actually, it is a neat polymer that looks and feels just like snow! Used on movie sets!
Weather on Other Planets!
Learn about weather on other planets. Why are there storms on Jupiter but not on the moon? Weigh yourself on the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, and an Asteroid!
