The new porch space, located in an area accessible through the third-floor mezzanine of City Hall, is open to the city’s residents and visitors throughout the summer during lunch hours, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.
“Opening the City Hall Porch for the summer is a simple and creative way to make City Hall more inviting for residents and visitors,” Walsh said in a a statement. “Everyone is welcome on the Porch, whether it is to socialize with friends or to relax in the summer sun.”
For the summer, the Porch will also feature four sets of the city’s “parklets,” or seasonal patios designed for public spaces . The patios featured are expected to eventually be moved to neighborhoods throughout Boston.
The Porch isn’t the city’s first attempt at livening up City Hall Plaza. The city launched its front lawn earlier this summer, which features astroturf grass and lawn games.
