holiday movies on the big screen photoThere’s something nifty about seeing a classic holiday film on the big screen. Here's a quick rundown of places you and your family can see one of your favorite holiday flicks on the big screen this December.

Showcase Cinemas
Legacy Place in Dedham; Lowell; Patriot Place Foxborough; Randolph; Revere; Woburn

Starting the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Showcase Cinemas in the area are screening four holiday films on four consecutive Saturdays at 10:00am. Movies are free to see with a donation of a nonperishable item for a food pantry. The 4 holiday movies being shown this year are: Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Story, It’s a Wonderful Life, and White Christmas.

Bank of Canton, Canton
(December 9) Bank of Canton’s Corporate Headquarters Auditorium is hosting a free showing of The Muppet Christmas Carol on December 9. The film re-tells the classic Charles Dickens’ story in a muppet-friendly format. Reservations are required. Doors open at 6:30pm; movie begins at 7:00pm.

Maynard Fine Arts Theatre
This December, Maynard's Fine Arts Theatre will be screening a number of free holiday movies as a thank you to patrons for a terrific year. The lineup includes favorites like 'A Christmas Story', 'National Lampoon's A Christmas Vacation', 'The Santa Clause', 'Home Alone', Miracle on 34th Street', 'Elf', 'It's A Wonderful Life', and 'The Polar Express'. Brattle Theatre, Cambridge
(From December 16-18), The Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square will be screening: It’s a Wonderful Life. The movie traces the life of George Bailey, played by Jimmy Stewart, as he contemplates what the world would be like without him in it. A must-see holiday classic in black & white.

The Boston Public Library is screening a number of holiday movies and shows at its local branches this season. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s being shown where:

Fields Corner Branch, Dorchester
'The Best Christmas Pageant Ever' will be shown at the Fields Corner Branch of the library screens it on Christmas Eve day at 11:00am.

Grove Hall, Dorchester
On December 22 at 5:30pm, come to Grove Hall library for Family Night, which includes cookie decorating and a showing of Rugrats holiday episodes. And then, on Christmas Eve, get in the holiday spirit with How the Grinch Stole Christmas. If you have preschool-age children, the Fields Corner Branch is showing winter and holiday flicks during Preschool Movie Hour every Friday at the library in December.

Honan-Allston Branch, Allston
(On December 21), visit the Honan-Allston Branch of the library for an evening of holiday cheer. Kids are invited to wear their PJs to a free showing of The Polar Express at 5:15pm. There will be cookies and hot cocoa to snack on and time to make a seasonal craft to take home.

Children under age six must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Children ages seven to nine must have an adult present in the library during the program. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to stay and enjoy the movie.

Lower Mills Branch, Dorchester
Free seasonal films are being shown every Friday afternoon at 1pm at the Lower Mills Branch.

9th - Christmas in Connecticut
16th - Holiday Inn
23rd - The Shop Around the Corner
30th - Holiday Affair
