The Summer Solstice will launch this year's 3rd Annual Yarmouth Summer Celebration Kick-Off in the Town of Yarmouth, Cape Cod.
The 2013 event has been extended to include two full weekends, commencing Friday, June 21 and running through Saturday, June 29.
The trademark of this event is the some 36 two and a half ton sand sculptures commissioned by local businesses displayed around town, plus the 20 ton signature sculptures at Bass River and Seagull beaches.
But that is just the start.
The event, which spans nine full days just before the July 4th holiday, includes a wide array of fun and frolic and parties and contests for anyone whose joie de vivre inspires them to celebrate the arrival of summer.
There is a wide diversity of activities, giving all ages something to enjoy and celebrate.
Most activities will take place at Bass River Beach with additional fun planned at Seagull Beach, Bass Hole in Yarmouth Port off Route 6A, and at the Dennis-Yarmouth High School ball fields.
Last year, hundreds of visitors and locals took the 'sculpture tour' and photographed the themed sand sculptures located at area businesses.
A photo contest will be conducted again this summer.
In addition to the sand art, delight to four days of ‘kite fun,’ a fishing clinic and derby, amateur sand sculpting contests, scenic nature walks, a ‘sea captains and pirates adventure,’ salsa by the sea dance night, a sailing regatta, Y-D Red Sox baseball games, stunt bicycling exhibition, an ice cream tasting, and a ‘Summer Celebration Beach BBQ’ complete with local raw bar, chowder, hot dogs, burgers, chicken, ice cream, and libations for all ages.
And, last but certainly not least, a fireworks finale set to music on Saturday evening, the 29th.
This is a quintessential 'Summer Celebration' and it’s all right here in beautiful Yarmouth, a short 75 miles from both Boston and Providence.
Yarmouth lodging establishments, restaurants and retailers will be offering special values during the Summer Celebration.
So in addition to this being a splendid time to visit the Cape just before the busy influx of summer visitors, travelers will find it a more affordable time to visit as well.
Late June weather is usually seasonably warm with abundant sunshine and ample opportunities to participate in the widest possible spectrum of Cape Cod recreation and lifestyle.
The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox is again the non-profit sponsor host of the Yarmouth Summer Celebration Kick-Off with funding provided by the Town of Yarmouth's Tourism Fund along with local businesses.
The Cape Cod Irish Village is the event’s Presenting Sponsor this year.
