The Big Apple Circus combines international circus artistry with Broadway-style theater under a big top. It's a fun-filled arena of movement, rhythm, color, light and sound — reflecting the spirit that has long drawn the world's greatest artists to the emotional immediacy of the circus. Because no seat is more than 50 feet from the action, this is the perfect circus for young children.

Celebrate!
Pop the cork, toss the confetti, and let the revelry begin - The Big Apple Circus is celebrating it's 30th anniversary with a brand new show called 'Celebrate!' under its famous Big Top tent. In the intimate, theatrical focus of the Big Apple Circus's single ring, the world's greatest performers are throwing a birthday bash - it's the Big Three-O, and you're invited!

There will be hula hoops on swingin hips, and flashy juggling wonders, capering dogs and high-prancing horses, soaring aerial acrobats, hilarious hi-jinks, amazing feats of stregth and agility - and no one sits more than 50 feet from ringside so you won't miss a thing.

The Big Apple Circus comes to Boston each year in spring. This years performance will be at City Hall Plaza. Check their website for specific schedules and venues. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster and at www.BosTixJr.org.

Big Apple Circus History:
Inspired in Europe, founded in America in 1977 by Paul Binder and Michael Christensen, the Big Apple Circus introduced American audiences to the intimate and interactive environment of a one-ring circus under the Big Top.

The Big Apple Circus is more than just a circus. Each performance is rooted in tradition, but the commitment to kids and families is a vision truly their own. Classical Circus all began in 1770, when Philip Astley combined equestrian showmanship, acrobats and jugglers into a one-ring show. The circus began in 1977, with the vision and passion of our co-founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen. That vision is still the beating heart of the Big Apple Circus, making us who they are, and guiding all they have done in their Brief History.

The Brief History starts in Kent, England, 1974, where American entertainers and Big Apple Circus co-founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen crafted a comedic juggling act that over the next 18 months they took to the street corners all over Europe. In 1976, after a season with Annie Fratellini's one-ring Nouveau Cirque de Paris that changed their lives, they returned home to America. One year later they created what would become a world-renowned performing arts organization, which has entertained millions of people across the country, and become a leader in premium family entertainment.

Since then Paul and Michael have worked hard to bring national audiences the intimate and interactive environment of a one-ring circus under a Big Top tent, and take the magic of circus outside the ring to children in need.

Better every year, Mon 28 Apr 2008

We love this circus. There are no bad seats. And it's always different. This year an Asian acrobat who walks on a rope ---actually swings on it, standing up, no hands. As my 7-year-old exclaimed, 'You don't see that every day!' Food advisory: only hot dogs, popcorn & cotton candy for sale. Thirty steps away is a convenience store with fruit/sandwiches; also a Dunkin Donuts that closes early.

A Triumph!, Sun 30 Mar 2008

The Big Apple Circus is simply outstanding - and this, the year of their 30th celebration is no exception. From beginning to end it's a top notch performance full of talent and and laughter and life. And the clowns keep the smiles and energy going througout. The acrobatic finale was spectacular. And you are so close to all the action you can't help but feel a part of it all. Three cheers!

2007 Big Apple Circus, Mon 2 Apr 2007

This is our 5th year at the Big Apple Circus and our favorite to date. We have four children ranging from 2 - 1; the venue is small and intimate, yet exciting and accessible for all ages. In past years we had front row seats, but this year we sat in the back; there are no bad seats at the show so don't feel like you have to spend the money to sit at the front unless you want to be very near, or possibly part of the action. We loved this year's historical theme and some fun surprises as well -- take the train and make it even more fun for the kids.

Top Notch!!, Sun 1 Apr 2007

What a wonderful evening we had! Our kids, (ages 5 & 3) were completely entertained the entire time. Pretty impressive for our jumpy 3 year old son. The clowns were very funny, and there were so many different and exciting acts and the live music really rounded out the experience. We loved the 'theatre in the round' concept. Not a bad seat in the house for sure. Hats off to Big Apple Circus!

The Big Apple Circus is great. I went there as a kid and now i work there as a teen. Its just perfect for families of all different ages everyone will be laughing and having a good time.

Perfection, Sun 7 May 2006

Comfortable seating, reasonable prices, clowns that are truly funny, and magnificent acts that aren't too long -- what more could a parent ask? This year's production, 'Grandma Goes to Hollywood' weaves in the mystique of Star Wars, swashbuckling and aerial stunts from Peter Pan, gansters from the Godfather, and more. Add a live band, exquisite horses, talented dogs, and very little hawking of overpriced junk -- the Big Apple Circus is perfect. If you can, take a train!

Fun Family Activity, Wed 26 Apr 2006

My kids are 20 months and 3 years and they both loved it and captured there attention the entire time. We all had a great time.
