5-starIn Response To The Previous Review
As General Manager of Stoneham Theatre, I was obviously concerned when I read this comment. Although we do enforce a ‘no babes in arms’ policy out of respect to the hundreds of adult and senior patrons we seat at every performance, we do consider ourselves to be a very family friendly venue. Rather than arbitrarily define an age appropriate cut-off for each production, our box office staff works with each ticket buyer to understand the maturity level of children potentially visiting our theatre. When we see children in our lobby prior to a show with more mature themes, we often do seek out the parent or guardian to ensure that they are aware of the content before curtain time. We also stock some booster seats at our concession stand so that young patrons aren’t deprived of a superior view. The one restriction that we do sometimes need to enforce is that parents with children too young to have their own seat are probably too young to sit through a ninety minute performance of live theatre. I’m sorry that you didn’t receive more courteous treatment but I hope you can understand our policies and hope you may give us a chance in the future. I just thought I would comment on the Stomeham Theatre. I went to see 'It's a Wonderful Life' with a group and I brought my young son believing this was a family friendly establishment. I was really surprised when before I even sat down in my seat I was approached by an employee who told me that if my son started making any noise we would have to leave. My son was enjoying the show and was extremely well behaved. When he started to get antsy (but still not loud at ALL) the same employee motioned me to exit the theatre! I brought my son into the lobby where I was pretty much told I should take him home and put him to bed! He was not even welcome in the lobby! I was appalled and will never return to this supposed 'family friendly' establishment.
