Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM, the parade steps off from the center of Lexington at the historic Lexington Battle Green and ends at the muster field located at Lower Hayden Fields on Worthen Road. At the end of the parade, the muster activities will immediately commence. Thirty fife and drum corps from all over the Northeast will be performing music typical of Colonial America. In addition, there will be a colonial fair run by the Lexington Rotary Club where all types of colonial crafts, toys and food can be purchased. Provincial and British re-enactors will also be present, setting up camp to depict daily life in the 18th Century.
About the William Diamond Junior Fife & Drum Corps
The William Diamond Junior Fife & Drum Corps comprises youth from 6 – 16 years of age from Lexington and the surrounding towns. Members learn to play on a six-hole fife and rope-tension drums, the signature sound of colonial New England, from experienced corps instructors.
The Corps performs in various events throughout the year such as the Bedford Pole Capping, the Lexington Patriot’s Day Parade, the U.S.S. Constitution’s Sunset Parade, the Brookline Flag Day Parade, and the Chelmsford Fourth of July Parade. In July 2006, The Corp performed with the nationally acclaimed Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums (also known as the Field Music of the Virginia State Garrison Regiment Williamsburg Fife and Drum Corps) in Colonial Williamsburg, VA.
The William Diamond Junior Fife & Drum Corp has performed all around the Northeast, Switzerland and France. For more information about the corps and its activities, please visit their website at williamdiamondjrs.org.
