Others to Consider: Euro Trattoria, Figs, Bonkers Funhouse Pizza, Pizzaria Regina, Caesar's Pizza & SubsThe Flatbread Company is a pizza place unlike any other pizza place. It features a primitive wood-fired oven, where all of the pizzas are cooked. If this isn't enough of a discussion piece, the walls of the restaurant are covered in bright, colorful banners celebrating various ingredients.
As much as Flatbread's appears to be a family-centered restaurant, it still has a laid-back ambiance (and a large bar) that attracts singles and couples, as well. It is usually loud, crowded and noisy, with a long waiting time on the weekends. Regardless, Flatbread's remains a very popular and much-loved part of Amesbury, largely for its health- and eco-friendly take on pizza.
The menu consists of one organic salad (lettuces with celery, carrots, sesame seeds and seaweed) and six pizzas, along with two or three weekly specials. One especially creative pizza is called 'Punctuated Equilibrium,' topped with Kalamata olives, fresh rosemary, red onions, roasted red peppers, goat cheese, mozzarella, garlic, cheese and herbs. (Plain cheese is available, too.) The dough is made with organically grown wheat and spring water. Their tomato sauce is made with organic tomatoes, in a wood-fired cauldron in the restaurant's dining room. For dessert, a wood oven-warmed brownie or piece of gingerbread is available topped with ice cream.
The prices reflect the quality of the ingredients, but not the amount of food you get: one flatbread pizza is recommended for two people. Prices range from just over $12 to just under $18 for a pizza. This is considerably more than most places charge for a pizza, but the dining experience and the high quality food make it an excusable indulgence.
Flatbread's offers benefit nights every Tuesday, donating $3.50 of every flatbread sold to that week's particular organization. Past organizations include Boy Scout troops and local high school clubs and societies.

Awesome Awesome!, Tue 17 Jul 2007
This pizza is the best in New England - giving Santarpios a 2nd. It is well worth the drive to Portsmouth, Amesbury, Portland, North Conway or even Canton CT if you are in the local area - great family atmosphere - awesome desserts too if you have room! The parking is not that bad in Amesbury - park in the municipal lot behind the Barking Dog, walk over the river walk way and you are there! I lived in Amesbury right next to Flatbread for a year and that is the only thing that I miss about it!!!!! Please come to Salem!!
Once You Have Their Pizza, You'll Never Want Any Other!, Wed 15 Nov 2006
Their pizzas taste wonderful; ingredients are superb! We go or take out at least twice a month! See you there!

- Getting take-out will save you money (no tip; no drinks), but eating in will provide a memorable night out for the whole family.
- In downtown Amesbury, parking is very limited. Plan on a hike to/from the parking lot.
