Buying Thyme, where you’re the chef, is a new fast[er] food option. BT is healthier and tastier than take-out, and a lot easier than home cooking.

The business, kind of a “do-it-yourself”or 'food assembly' restaurant, was started by chef Karen Andrew “to make life a little easier, one dinner at a time.” Andrews and her staff develop recipes, provide prepped ingredients, then lend you their kitchen, where you assemble dishes to your liking. The results are delicious, time-saving and competitively priced.

Buying Thyme has day and evenings sessions on Wednesday-Saturday. Schedule your session, browse the Buying Thyme's website, and choose from the kitchen’s current recipe offerings. You’ll be greeted at BT with an apron and simple instructions on assembling the meals you’ve ordered.

Finished creations, with cooking instructions (and complementary homemade cookies) are double-bagged and ready to be cooked or frozen at home.

All BT’s meats and poultry are free of growth hormones and antibiotics. Vegetables and fruit are organic, and ingredients are fresh and prepared daily. BT provides nutritional information for most dishes and can also accommodate special diet needs. Menu selections labeled “Kid Friendly” have passed a panel of picky middleschoolers!

Is it worth the price?
Buying Thyme keeps prices down by selling meals by the dozen and half dozen. Depending on your tastes, family size and budget, meals you make at BT will cost $2.65 to $6.00 per person. According to BT's calculations, here's what it costs for twelve dinners for six people from these sources:

Buying Thyme: $275

Restaurant take-out: $420

Personal Chef: $1200

Homemade with organic ingredients, plus prep and clean-up: $300

For an extra charge, BT also has a pick-up service and home delivery to Beverly, Danvers, Salem and Cape Ann.

You can also book private parties for 8-12 guests. Buying Thyme will supply refreshments for your evening. You’ll leave with plenty to eat and a party favor.
