Others to Consider: Ole Mexican Grille, Border Cafe, Ixtapa Cantina, Forest Cafe, Qdoba Mexican GrilleIt might seem strange at first to walk into a Mexican fast-food restaurant and see skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing paraphernalia covering the entire room. However, it makes more sense when you find out that 'Bucky' is Bucky Lasek, the X-Games gold-medallist and action sports icon. The benches are made from old snowboards, pictures and brand logos line the walls, and a big flatscreen TV shows surfing and boarding videos.
Although the restaurant may seem to focus on action sports alone, the food is authentic and 'California-style' Mexican. The menu isn't extensive, but it offers the basics, along with lots of ways to personalize your meal. Choose a taco, burrito, fajita, or quesadilla; decide whether you want it made with chicken, beef, pork, veggies, or even Maryland blue crab; and then move along the display case, adding the accoutrements that you'd like. For $6-9 (more for the blue crab), you get a fully stuffed Mexican dish.
A children's menu offers sandwiches, smaller portions of the regular menu choices, and a 'burrito bowl,' which you can fill with anything that you'd put in a burrito. This is a great choice for picky eaters. Choose from rice and beans, cheese, meat, corn salad, and veggies.
Bucky's Burritos is a socially conscious company-- recycling, business ethics and helping the community are top priorities, as are using seasonal and local foods when possible. It is located in Port Plaza, which is the plaza across from Shaw's supermarket.
