Be Prepared..., Thu 24 Apr 2008
Their practices feel a bit underhanded because you don't know what they choose cause it's all up high in bins. I'm sure it's purposeful, so they don't have to show and talk to you about each item. No haggling. You don't know what they are giving you for each item. They only want things that move quick, in and out of the store. My advice is for you to not sell things you're personally attached to. Some of my son's higher priced clothes I had memories of how they looked so cute wearing them. The memories were worth more than a buck. However, my son's soccer cleats were high priced items, which they bought, and I had no attachment to them, so I didn't care. I took about 150 lbs of boys clothes to The Children's Orchard. They took only the most resellable and profitable. With my stuff they took about 20 lbs and I was left carrying out the rest, which they threw into one of my bigger bags. It's funny, I expected about 50 bucks, they gave me $52, but I had to take all the leftovers with me. It probably cost me $500.
Children's Orchard, Billerica, Sat 8 Mar 2008
I am relieved to see that other people were unhappy about how they were treated when selling their clothes in the Billerica store. I left the place wondering what had hit me. I've been selling my kids' clothes for years and NEVER have I not been able to see what the taking price for items were. (And my stuff is Hanna Andersson and the like.) Compare this practice to - for example - Auntie Erl's Exchange in Bedford, where I now go (I wish she took larger sizes...). Get real! The C.O. employee treated me like a charity case - I should be glad to get anything for my junk. Is it a pawn shop operation or what? The treatment of sellers in Billerica is NOT PROFESSIONAL or even plain old respectful. Take your kids' clothes elsewhere!
Children's Orchard In Quincy (now Closed), Tue 4 Dec 2007
I have a 10 and 7 year old and brought my clothes to the quincy location since they were both babies. I always had a good experience with the owner. I have never experienced a 'sell' when she had buyers from other stores in (which was common practice) and think this may be what the disappointed sellers came across. the owner always went through my items in front of me and usually took everything I brought in. I was always happy with the cash I recieved. I was sad to see her go. I'm now headed to the Norwood store for the first time. I hope I have as good of an experience there that I always had in the Quincy store.
Children's Orchard ~ Seekonk - I LOVE IT!, Wed 29 Aug 2007
I absolutley LOVE this place! I go a month or so before the upcoming season & always find a GREAT selection, GREAT prices & GREAT sevice! The staff is talkative & helpful... they usually ooooo & aaaahhhhh over the pieces as they ring them up ~ complimenting the pieces & making conversation. It is clean & well organized. I really LOVE going there. My kids always find a book to read while I am shopping... and they are encouraged by the staff to read a book or play with a toy while I am shopping! It's GREAT!! I buy Gymboree & Ralph Lauren by the bag full & never spend more than $100. Last trip I bought a Gap Kids wool toggle coat for $18 - beautiful! I also bought a Warmest Jacket with a fur trim from Old Navy for $9.99! I left with 3 bags & spent $94! I got TCP, Old Navy, Gymboree, Ralph Lauren and Baby Gap. No junk! I give it 2 thumbs up! Easy to get to, well organized, awesome selevtion of brand name clothes & friendly staff! Can't beat that!!!
Billerica, MA Location Only OK, Mon 2 Jul 2007
I find their selection usually very nice and can usually leave with quite a bag of clothing. Their prices are only so, so as sometime I can find brand new items on sale or clearance in stores for less. Their sale prices are good though! They are very picky about what they will buy (therefore the nice selection) but they pay very, very little, especially considering what they turn around and sell it for. I've sold at several shops and they pay the least, by far. The service leaves a whole lot to be desired, even with the new management. They do not great customers and when they do interact it is not usually very friendly. Frankly if their customer service was better I would probably shop their a whole lot more, but instead I travel out of my way to another store where I get better service and slightly better prices. As for the store - it is very clean, organized and bright.

Loyal Customer Needs To Respond!, Thu 22 Mar 2007
I have been bringing my clothes to the Children's Orchard in Billerica for years now and have to speak up for them They are always fair and friendly. Rose at the front could not be more helpful. The store is always bright and clean and very well organized. The pricing is very fair. Ladies you are bringing in your USED clothing for resale. How much do you expect to get? I shop in New York and bring in Diesel and Baby Lulu and Cache, along with my favorite gap jeans and am happy to get something back. I have also found great 'new' things for my kids while I am waiting. What's more, if you are not happy with the price why not just say 'no thank you' I'll donate it instead. I never write these things but you are not giving these ladies who contribute to the community their due. I applaud the Children's Orchard and all they do for mom's and grandmothers trying to cloth their kids!! My understanding is that chain has been around for some 20 years, so they must be doing something right!
BEWARE!!!! Children's Orchard In Billerica,Ma. Tue. Feb.13,2007, Tue 13 Feb 2007
What a scam this store is!! Yesterday, for the first and LAST time i took 85 items to the Children's Orchard in Billerica which i had made an appointment for. I spent 2 days getting the clothes ready and typing each item out on the computer by size. Most of my items had tags still on them never worn and all of my clothes are name brands, and i don't mean crap, i mean Tommy Hilfiger,Polo, Filene's was my store! I am very anal when it comes to keeping my kids clothes clean and if you ask anyone who knows me they will tell you exactly the same about me. Upon entering the store, they had me fill out an index card then they took my bag and 4 outfits still on the hangers with tags on them out back and said that it would take about 20 minutes and then they would call me. After I waited the woman called me and said ok this is the stuff I would like to purchase and here is your $48.00. I looked at her like she was on drugs! I had given them Polo Jeans that I had bought at Filene's for $50.00 and was the most brand name that they were EVER going to get and she only wanted to give me $1.00 for them! She then told me that even though the pooh stuff is cute it doesn't sell, so i stupidly took the money and couldn't wait to get home to see exactly what she bought. When I went through each item I discoverd that she bought 48 items and gave me $48.00!! Of course she took everything with tags on them and all the polo and tommy stuff, BIG money items and gave me a friggin dollar for them!! I will NEVER EVER go back to this ripoff again and will warn anyone i know. I'd rather keep my EXPENSIVE clothes to grow mold than profit this SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Natick Store Is Great, Fri 9 Feb 2007
The Natick store is the only Children's Orchard I've been to, but it was well organized, with quality merchandise and top names in clothing. I brought some clothes back because they didn't fit and had no trouble getting a credit for the next purchase. My only complaint is that it's so far away.
Several Bad Experiences, Wed 7 Feb 2007
I have had several bad experiences in the Quincy store. As mentioned by several others, they take your bins in a back room & rummage thru them & will not let you see what they are doing. You have no idea what they did take & they make you feel like your things are garbage. Most of my items were also top brand names, ironed, on hangers & they gave me close to nothing for what they took. I noticed that many items on the racks were in worse condition than items I brought & they were getting some big money for some of those things. The owner is very rude; the place is cramped & smelly & I've heard of similar experiences from other mothers. Very deceitful & poor business practices!
