Create a new tradition this year! Join us for one of these tours and you can dry harvest your own cranberries - then you can brag about it at the Thanksgiving table!

The A.D. Makepeace Company is offering two public pick-your-own cranberry tours this year.

Our guided tours include a discussion of each growing season, touches upon the history of the cranberry industry and our company, allows for interaction with our farmers, includes the viewing of our wet harvest cranberry operation, and time for guests to dry harvest their own cranberries.

What is the difference between a Dry Harvest and a Water Harvest?
Most people associate cranberries with the iconic image of bright red berries floating in blue water. That iconic sceen is referred to as water harvesting. All the cranberries that are harvested in this manner are used for processed products such as cranberry juice, cranberry sauce, and sweetened dried cranberries. Dry harvest cranberries are harvested without the use of water. A dry harvested cranberry has a siginificant shelf life due to the berries' natural waxy protective coating. In order to keep that coating in tact, berries must be harvested dry and kept dry. The marjoirity of dry harvested fruit is sold as fresh fruit and sold in packages in the produce section of the grocery story or at local farm stands. This tour feature a water harvest operation and allow for you to take part in dry harvesting!

The tour lasts approximately two hours. Very little walking is required.

Guests will be able to dry harvest fresh cranberries by hand during the tour. Guests are allowed to keep the berries they harvest during the allotted harvest portion of the tour (approximately 30 minutes). Please note, this is a non-water harvest tour, no waders are required, appropriate dress and footwear required.

Be prepared for possible wet or muddy conditions. Tours are held rain or shine but severe weather may postpone or cancel a tour. Guests will be transported by bus to the cranberry bog areas.
