New School of Music ProgramsThe New School of Music is a community music school for students of all ages and levels. NSM offers affordable programs in a non-competitive, student centered learning environment with teachers who are active professionals with expertise and passion in music education.

February Vacation Program: Musical Tales and Instruments
Students explore masterpieces through singing, acting, and crafts along with an introduction to the recorder and rhythm instruments.
Ages: 5-10
Time: 9:00am-1:00pm

April Vacation Program: Kids’ Cabaret
Kids’ Cabaret incorporates singing, acting and dancing. Throughout the week, team-building is
integral to the learning process and is explored through theater games, script-writing exercises and improvisation.
Ages: 7-14
Time: 9:00am-3:00pm: Tuesday - Friday; 9:00-12:00pm on Saturday with a noon performance
Dates: Tuesday, April 17 - Saturday, April 21, 2012

Summer Options

Learn & Listen— An exploration of the Piano!
Students learn basic piano skills, explore great masterpieces of piano music and learn to write their own music through basic theory and rhythm activities!
Dates: June 25 - July 6, 2012; No class on the 4th
Times: 9:00-12:00pm
Ages: 7-10
Fee: $400

Kids' Cabaret Summer
Sing, Act and Dance! Throughout the program, team-building is integral to the learning process and is explored through theater games, script-writing exercises and improvisation. The session culminates in performances of songs, scenes and dance from the musical theater repertoire.

Date: July 2 - July 20, 2012; No class on the 4th
Time: 9:00-4:00pm
Ages: 7-14 years
Fee: $900

Youth Chamber Institute
String and piano students are invited to join us to make music with other aspiring young musicians. Participants engage in chamber repertoire, master classes and music theory for beginners through collaborative activities and games.

Dates: July 23- August 3, 2012
Times: 9:00-1:00pm
Ages: 7-14
Fee: $550

Introduction to Cello and Violin
During these two weeks, children learn hands-on, basic skills for the cello and violin. Program will integrate singing, movement and musical games to strengthen their musical knowledge.

Dates: August 6 - 17, 2012
Times: 9:00 - 12:00pm
Ages: 5-10
Fee: $400; instruments provided

World Music Explorers
A hands-on introduction to world instruments, dance and art. Students explore the world through music during a series of workshops to include dance, song and games from around the world.

Dates: August 13 - 17, 2012
Times: 9:00-3:30pm
Ages: 5-10
Fee: $400

From Harvard Square
Take Mt. Auburn Street out of the square towards Watertown, heading a half mile west. Turn right onto Lowell St., just before the Mt. Auburn Hospital. Parklot on the left.

From Rt. 2
Follow Rt. 2 east past the Alewife T station and around the Fresh Pond rotaries (Rt. 2 becomes Fresh Pond Parkway.) Stay on Rt. 2/Fresh Pond Parkway, crossing Huron Ave. At the next stop light, turn left onto Brattle St. Take the third right onto Lowell St. Park in the lot on the right, just past the school entrance.

By Bus
Take the 71 Watertown or 73 Waverly bus to Mt. Auburn Hospital. Walk around the corner to
Lowell Street. The school will be on the left, number 25.
